IP addresses are saved as an encrypted string that cannot be reversed into the original IP address. The encryption algorithm uses the secure SHA1 method with a salt which further prevents dictionary attacks. For instance, the IP address of 1.2.3.4 would be seen on our servers as "8cf6e602eb2b65fadf190ff56ef7334377acdc8c". While we are able to determine if 1.2.3.4 is "8cf6e602eb2b65fadf190ff56ef7334377acdc8c", it is impossible to extract the 1.2.3.4 address from the encrypted string.

In summary, even if someone gains access to our servers, it is impossible for someone to associate a user with an IP address. We do this to protect the users of this site.
